From 25 May to June 3 we participate in National Reconciliation Week.
The week commences with National Sorry Day, followed by Reconciliation Week and concluding on Mabo Day.
Activities undertaken to recognise this week included a 3D Art Project created and run by the Year 6 Jarjums, with the support of Year 5.
The Art Project was to dot paint 2 x carpet snakes (kabool) and 1 x sea turtle (bunbiya) and 1 x bottle nosed dolphin (boolungun).
This artwork was a collective endeavour and run through the week outside the library and completed on Mabo Day at the Breakfast and Yarn Up.
During the week students in every class were given the outline of a hand to decorate and on Mabo Day in the morning we held our first "Walk together". Students carried their decorated hands as they walked around the oval to 3 pieces of music that reflected the structure of National Reconciliation Week - Respect, Acknowledgement, Celebration. At the end of the walk the hands were gathered and taken to the yarning circle to create an installation of recognition. Thanks to all those who were part of supporting this week of action, "Now more than ever".
Art work will be included in the NAIDOC Week Art display that will be in the library in Week 2 of Term 3. Our next parent Yarn Up will also be on Thursday 18 July at 8:15am, all welcome.
