National Simultaneous Storytime

It has been an exciting week in the library celebrating our love of reading during National Simultaneous Storytime. We ventured into outer space as we entered the library this week and joined over one million children around Australia and New Zealand reading the same book at the same time. The book this year was Give Me Some Space, written and illustrated by Philip Bunting and read by NASA astronaut Shannon Walker, live from the International Space Station.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Notes have now been handed out to all students about this year's Premier's Reading Challenge. Any students who still require a note please visit the library.

The challenge is not a competition but aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. This year, the Premier has challenged all state and non-state school students from Prep to Year 2 to read or experience 20 books, Years 3 and 4 to read 20 books and Years 5 to 9 to read 15 books. Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books.

In recognition of their efforts, students who complete the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Queensland and are invited to a special lunchtime celebration in the library. The PRC reading period commenced on Monday 10 May and closes Friday 27 August.

For more information about the Premier's Reading Challenge, please visit: https://readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au/

 Happy reading!
