Our school proudly follows Version 8.4 of the Australian Curriculum for The Arts, which recognises the vital role the arts play in developing students’ creativity, confidence, emotional intelligence, and cultural understanding. Through rich and varied experiences in the arts, students learn to express themselves, work collaboratively, and think in innovative ways.
The Arts curriculum includes five distinct subjects, which may be taught individually or through integrated learning experiences, depending on the year level and school context:
1. Dance
Students explore movement, expression, and storytelling through the body. They learn choreography, performance skills, and how dance communicates meaning.
2. Drama
Through role-play, improvisation, and performance, students build confidence and creativity. They learn how to express ideas, work in teams, and reflect on the world around them through dramatic forms.
3. Media Arts
Students engage with digital and traditional media forms—like photography, film, animation, and audio. They learn how to create and interpret visual messages in today’s media-rich world.
4. Music
Students develop skills in listening, performing, and composing. They explore rhythm, pitch, dynamics, and musical expression using instruments, voice, and technology.
5. Visual Arts
Through drawing, painting, sculpture, and other mediums, students learn to observe, imagine, and create. They explore artistic techniques, tools, and the cultural meanings of artworks.
What makes Version 8.4 of The Arts valuable?
It gives students practical skills and creative tools to express themselves in diverse and meaningful ways.
It encourages critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation, helping students understand different cultures, perspectives, and artistic traditions.
The curriculum promotes personal growth, collaboration, and resilience through artistic exploration and reflection.
Students are supported to experiment and take creative risks in a safe, inclusive environment.
Our teachers plan engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences that allow students to explore each of the arts subjects, often integrating them with other curriculum areas. The Arts are not just about performance—they’re about understanding, creating, and communicating in ways that support lifelong learning and personal development.
