At our school, we value the importance of student wellbeing, physical development, and healthy lifestyle habits. That’s why we follow Version 8.4 of the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education (HPE)—a comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculum that helps students grow into confident, active, and resilient individuals.
The HPE curriculum is built around two key strands:
1. Personal, Social and Community Health
This strand helps students understand how to make safe, healthy, and respectful choices in their everyday lives. Topics include:
Physical, mental, and emotional health
Nutrition and healthy eating
Personal safety and protective behaviours
Positive relationships, respect, and inclusivity
Understanding and managing emotions
Drug education and cyber safety (age-appropriate)
2. Movement and Physical Activity
This strand develops students’ physical skills, fitness, and teamwork through a range of sports, games, and active play. Students learn:
Fundamental movement skills and strategies
Teamwork and fair play
How to set goals and improve personal fitness
The importance of lifelong physical activity
Safe participation in physical activity and sport
What makes Version 8.4 of HPE valuable?
It focuses on both physical and mental wellbeing, recognising that health is about the whole person.
It equips students with practical strategies for building resilience, managing stress, and forming healthy relationships.
It encourages active lifestyles and helps students enjoy and engage in physical activity in ways that suit their interests and abilities.
It promotes inclusivity and respect for diversity, supporting students to develop a strong sense of self and social responsibility.
Our teachers plan inclusive, engaging lessons that are responsive to the needs and interests of students. Whether it’s learning how to make healthy choices, practicing teamwork in sport, or developing confidence and self-awareness, HPE plays a vital role in every student’s development.
