Year 6 Graduation Evening

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The 2021 Year 6 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 1 December, 2021.  To meet the current COVID-safe guidelines and enable families to attend this event, graduation will be an outdoor event and therefore will be held on the school oval commencing at 4:30pm. Please note, should the weather be unsuitable on this day the Ceremony will be postponed to the back-up date, which will take place the following morning, Thursday 2 December at 9:30am on the oval.  Parents are welcome to attend at this alternative time should this be necessary.

IMPORTANT Weather Information

Due to the possibility of weather interference i.e. storms and rain, Thornlands State School reserves the right to cancel the outdoor graduation ceremony if required to ensure the safety of our staff, students and families.

In the event that bad weather is experienced on both dates, we will hold a student's only ceremony in our school hall Thursday 2 December at 9:30am. Due to COVID safe requirements regarding social distancing, as well as the logistical requirements required for an outdoor event such as stage hire, sound, lighting and electrical requirements, adults will unfortunately not be permitted to attend this indoor event should it have to take place. However this event will be filmed and provided to parents and carers via email. All attendees will be kept up to date via email/text with regards to any required weather changes.

The Graduation Ceremony will be a celebration and culmination of your child's primary school years.  The afternoon will consist of award presentations, performances and sharing of the highlights of 2021.  There will be plenty of laughter and maybe a few tears, as students and their parents say farewell to their primary school years.  Please note, due to Queensland Government COVID safe requirements, there will be no food provided.

Seating

We look upon Graduation as a special time for parents and students to share together and therefore younger children are not invited, but each Year 6 student is welcome to bring up to three (3) significant adults from their lives to share this milestone event with them.  (PLEASE NOTE: Due to the COVID restrictions numbers are restricted and therefore more than three adults per student will not be possible).   Seating for the ceremony will be arranged in groups of 3 to allow family groups to sit together. (Students will be seated together in a separate area at the front of the stage).  Students will be photographed throughout the night so parents and carers will not need to move around to take photos.

Dress Code

The dress code for the occasion is smart casual.  We do not wish parents to experience any undue expense and children do not need new clothes.  It would be most suitable for boys to wear shorts and button open neck shirts. (Definitely no T-shirts or shirts with slogans).  Smart trousers, dresses or skirts (not too short) are suitable for girls. Please remember shoes must be comfortable.  (High heeled shoes would be most unsuitable).

Payment

The cost for Graduation is $20.00 per student.  This amount will go towards the hiring of the stage and audio visual equipment, decorations, helium balloons, flowers, certificates, awards, invitations and other expenses.

Please pay by 13th November 2020 as no payment can be accepted after this date.  (This cut-off date is a requirement of the Regional Finance Team).

Payments can be made by

  1. BPoint, using the number on the invoice emailed to parents
  2. Office - Eftpos between 8.30am - 3.15pm
