Students at Thornlands are taught using Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum for Maths. The Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 introduces several key changes to the Mathematics curriculum aimed at enhancing clarity and focus:

Reorganisation of Strands: The curriculum now comprises six strands:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Measurement
  • Space
  • Statistics
  • Probability

This restructuring aims to provide a more logical progression of mathematical concepts.

Integration of Mathematical Processes: Key mathematical processes are now embedded throughout the curriculum:

  • Mathematical modelling from Years 1–10
  • Computational thinking from Years 3–10
  • Statistical investigations from Years 3–10
  • Probability experiments and simulations from Years 3–10

This integration ensures that students develop essential skills alongside their mathematical knowledge.

All students at Thornlands participate in daily mental maths activities and students in the upper school (Year 3-6) utilise Maths Trek, which connects the curriculum with real world learning.
