On Thursday our P-2 student’s celebrated the annual Under 8s Day celebration. This year’s theme was ‘Connecting to Culture through play’ and the students spent most of the day engaging in a range of indoor and outdoor activities which were all designed to challenge, inspire and celebrate being Under 8!
An important part of the Thornlands identity is the connection to Quandamooka country and Mudgeeraba (North Stradbroke Island). We were so fortunate to use the wonderful story of Whale Dreaming ‘Bibunla Yalingbila’ written by local author Dr Sandra Delaney Close. What a fantastic way to engage our children with our treasured Indigenous culture.
As the children rotated through each of the amazing activities it was lovely to see them so excited and happy. Thank you to our P-2 teachers, Mrs Stevens, teacher aides and of course Year 6 helpers and Tom Walters for their help towards ensuring this event was so special for our Under 8s. A special thanks also to Kate Connor for her dedication in organising Under 8s again this year- you are very much valued and appreciated.
