Last week we celebrated National Science Week at Thornlands. National Science Week ran from the 10th of August to the 18th of August and the theme for this year’s event was Species Survival – More Than Just Sustainability.
During the Week we had several events on across the school. Students watched a Webinar from the CSIRO based on around how they track and support Koalas that are rapidly on their way to becoming endangered and students completed activities in class to
support the theme of Species Survival.
As part of Thornlands Thinkers, select students in Year 6 participated in the National Science Quiz. This involved our Year 6 students participating in a Live Quiz through Kahoot, with questions presented to them by the CSIRO and Questacon.
As a culminating activity, students in P-6 all took part in a Street Science presentation on Friday 16 August. This was a one off special show developed by Street Science focused on Species Survival. For any species to survive, many species must survive. Students explored how all creatures are critically connected and that our survival depends on theirs! The stage show demonstrated animal intelligence, bioinspiration, animal defence as well as the innovations humans have made to help species persist.
Thank you to all of our students for participating in a dynamic National Science Week.
