Year 6 Graduation
Our Year 6 Graduation took place on Wednesday evening. An amazing celebration of the achievements of our Year 6 students and the past seven years of their schooling. This evening was made even more memorable by a surprise tribute to Maxine Hardman and Bill Crew by Benn Lovell and the students of 6H. After a number of years of dedicated service, Maxi and Bill are taking leave next year to travel. These two very special teachers will be remembered for always taking a special interest in the lives of their student's and always going above and beyond whether it be through camps, musicals or sport, including turning up to cheer on past and present students at various sporting matches over the weekend. They will certainly be missed by staff, students and families alike.
Thank you
The Year 6 Graduation would not have been possible without the hard work and efforts of a number of very talented staff. Thank you to Tom Walters for coordinating the audio visual, sound and lighting and event set up with his team including Norm Robinson, Ross Penny and Ben Truscott. Thank you to Julie Jeffrey and Penny Holm who added the sparkle through personalised decorations and certificates. Thank you to Suzi Pitt and Kate Connor, who assisted Tom throughout the evening and captured photos of the occasion.
A special thank you to the parents and carers of our Year 6 students who helped make this event so special for our Year 6 children. Your support and understanding around the last minute changes that needed to be made due to the weather was appreciated. Thank you to all in attendance for such an outstanding evening.
2022 Student Leadership Process
Congratulations to our 2022 School Captains who were announced on assembly this week.
2022 School Captains
Ruby D | Katie R | Lucille M | Gus L |
All students who participated in this selection process should be very proud of their efforts and certainly made the selection for staff and students very challenging! The quality of applications and speeches were absolutely amazing and a credit to the students and of course their teachers! We look forward to finalising our House Captains early next year.
Leadership and the selection of our School Leaders is something that we take seriously at Thornlands and hold in very high regard. The potential candidates are certainly challenged by a rigorous selection process commencing with a written application, an interview a speech. Staff and students then voted for their top four candidates. Anyone who knows the Year 5 cohort would be aware that the field of potential leaders is extremely strong. The voting also reflected the quality in the field with the outcome being extremely close. The official badge presentation ceremony will be held early Term 1 next year.
Cyber Safety
Last week our Supportive School Environment focus was cyber safety and being safe, responsible and respectful whilst using computers and electronic devices. Topics discussed included keeping passwords secret and the importance of accessing reputable websites. Social media and privacy settings were also discussed in the upper school and included the suggestions listed below from the eSafety Commissioner https://www.esafety.gov.au/
This website provides some excellent information and tips about staying safe and also reporting inappropriate content and online bullying. With holidays looming, we highly recommend you take the time to access this information and encourage your child to do the same.
On behalf of Ben Truscott and myself, we wish you a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
