Very soon our staff will commence preparations for class allocations for the following year. The reason we start this process now is because it is something, as a school, we take very seriously and devote a great deal of time and effort to try and get it right for each of our 785 students. It involves a team of staff including your child’s class teacher, Deputy Principal and support staff who meet over a number of weeks to try and balance a variety of factors, including the academic, social, and emotional needs of all children.
If you have concerns about the placement of your child for 2025 (e.g. friendships not conducive to learning or additional information requiring consideration such as physical and social emotional needs) please ensure you submit this in writing to the Office either via email admin@thornlandsss.eq.edu.au or in person. Please do this even if you have done so in the past.
Your child’s class teacher and the team of staff involved in class placements will do their best to accommodate requests, however it is important to understand that specific teachers will not be allocated to classes until the end of the year (and often this can change many times). To ensure your request is taken into consideration, please email the office or submit the form available at the office by the end of this term.
As always, your child’s teacher should be your first port of call if you have any questions about this process, followed by the relevant Deputy Principal. It is always best to check that your child’s teacher is aware of any issues before lists are commenced as they will be present for the class placement process. Whilst we will do our best to take into consideration all requests, often there can be other competing factors that also contribute to this puzzle and therefore final decisions will be at staff and Principal discretion.
