Our Prep students have a very exciting time at school and participate in a wide variety of activities. Not only do they participate in explicit teaching sessions but also in a range of imaginative play sessions. The following photos show an example of our students explicitly learning numbers but then engaging in some imaginative and creative play. During these times, students are giving opportunities to collaborate with each other and be responsive to the situation. Rich and diverse learning happens during all times of the day.
When PYB travelled to Italy this week, they were excited to learn that pizza was a dish from Italy. They were fascinated by how pizza makers toss pizza bases up into the air. So, we extended this interest into our craft and writing experiences. The children had fun making a pizza man and were keen to use their amazing writing skills to write about their favourite ingredients on a pizza.
This term our Preppies have been ‘visiting’ other countries. When PYA ‘visited’ Canada, they were fascinated to learn about Beavers. So then, our clever little Preps completed a STEM challenge - to build a beaver dam that collected water. They clapped and cheered when they tested their beaver dam and it was successful. Well done Prep! You are learning so much every single day!
Life is very exciting for our Prep students. Last week, some of our students boarded a plane to fly to Africa! They had their passport stamped, found their seat and then listened to the safety instructions from Captain Hardman and Captain Sharon. They then then took off!!!!!! Although they encountered some turbulence, Captain/Hostie Sharon managed to serve complimentary drinks. Once landing in Africa we explored this wonderful land.
When our Preps ‘visited’ Africa, they created paintings of African animal silhouettes. We proudly present this example of the Prep artwork for you to enjoy.
Our prep students are awesome problem solvers. This week, one of our Prep teachers lost her keys and the students used their amazing writing skills to offer suggestions of where she should look. Great work Preppies! Your learning is incredible!!!!
