It has been a wonderful start to the year in the Library with many students browsing the bookshelves and borrowing books to take home to read. I am very excited to continue my role this year as Teacher Librarian (Wednesday – Friday). Sam Gerry is the Teacher Librarian on Tuesdays this year and Jo Burton and Margret Bina are the teacher aides working in the Library.
Library lessons for Prep-Year 3 have begun and it is great to have students borrowing books to take home. Borrowing is done in P – 3 library lessons however students can also borrow before school (from 8.15am) and during lunch breaks from Tuesday to Friday. Could you please ensure your child brings their library bag to each lesson and that library books are returned on time.
We have a new Library mascot this year, Leo the Library Lion. Students have been enjoying seeing what Leo has been reading each week in the Library.
Reading Beads Program
All students have the opportunity this year to sign up to the Reading Beads program where students can collect beads for reading Thornlands State School Library books. Notes will be handed out during library lessons this week for students interested in Prep – Year 3. Students in Year 4 – Year 6 please come to the library to collect a note if you would like to sign up to the program.
Craft Maker Space
Our first activity in our Craft Maker Space this year is to create your own Peg Piranha from Aaron Blabey’s book Piranha’s Don’t Eat Bananas. Students are welcome to come and work in the Library Maker Space before school or during lunch breaks.
