A warm welcome for the start of another year at Thornlands State School. Once again we have had a smooth start to the year with all children returning or starting keen and ready to learn!
A reminder to all families that the first bell rings at 8:45am. We strongly discourage families from arriving at school prior to 8:30am if at all possible. There are a number of Before School Care options for families who need to drop students to school prior to 8:15am. A reminder also that all children wait at A block in the mornings before school. So that the teachers are able to plan and prepare for the day ahead, we ask that families do not wait outside of classrooms and for safety reasons, our playgrounds and equipment are also out of bounds.
Thank you to all families for your efforts in starting the year in correct uniform including black shoes. It is very much appreciated and we thank you for your support in this matter. We are very proud of our school uniform and the fact that we have high expectations with regards to the presentation of our students. It is the excellent learning outcomes coupled with the way our students wear their uniform with pride that is held in high regard by the school, the school P&C and the school community in general.
Every Day Counts
Did you know research demonstrates a clear correlation between school attendance and school achievement? Therefore it is important that students attend every single day. Under the law, schools are expected to monitor students’ attendance and any unexplained absences will be followed up with parents or caregivers. There are a number of ways you can let us know your child is absent. You can notify us via the QParents App or by leaving a message on the school’s absence line on 3821 8111. Do not despair if you do forget. You can also reply to the Student Absence SMS sent by the school.
