Book Week – Curious Creatures, Wild Minds!
The Library is buzzing with excitement this week, whilst we celebrate Book Week and our love of reading. The Library has been transformed into a Curious Creatures world immersed in displays where students have been busy completing scavenger hunts, searching for curious creatures and using the QR code reader app on the iPads to find out interesting facts about them. Many students have been enjoying reading the winning books in the CBCA Book of the Year Awards, completing the craft activities and getting their photo taken with some curious creatures using our Green Screen. It is wonderful to see so many children in the Library enjoying participating in the activities and reading and borrowing books. Thank you to all the hard working Student Librarians who have been helping our week run smoothly.

P – 3 Author Visit
On Thursday 22 October, to help celebrate Book Week and as part of our library program we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Thornlands State School to run workshops with our Prep - Year 3 students. Prep and Year 1 students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen Book Reading and follow-along drawing activity with Cameron. Year 2 and 3 students will be taking a behind-the-scenes look at creating a book, and applying their own creative components. We have been loving exploring Cameron's books during library lessons this term and are looking forward to a great day!
In conjunction with the Author Visit, Thornlands SS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron's books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive a form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned the following day, Friday 23 October to the colourful box in the Library.
