Time:              1.30-2.30
Place:             Computer Lab, Library
Presenter:    Ainsley Robertson from SPELD
What is Assistive Technology? Assistive Technology (AT) is the hardware and software used by a student with Learning Differences which enables them to achieve their potential and beyond.
Who benefits from Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology (AT) benefits individuals with Learning Differences such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, memory difficulties, language disorders and auditory processing disorder. AT lightens the load for students with Learning Differences and those who support them.
Why a Parent Information Session? Students with Learning Differences can benefit greatly from the use of technology. There are specific tools, programs and apps that are now available to assist those with Learning Differences. Speld QLD provides expert advice to all educational settings, parent groups and organisations via our AT Service.
Example topics include:
·        Assistive Technology (AT) Overview: Examining the AT options (e.g. hardware, software, apps, e-books, audio books, on-line programs) that are currently available and best suited to the needs of your child.
·       Using the iPad as an Assistive Technology (AT) tool: Learning how to alter iPad settings to make them user friendly. A demonstration of how best to use a series of apps to assist with the process of reading, researching, note-taking, writing and presenting written work.
RSVP to the office by Wednesday 10th May for organising purposes.
